Study Finds No Clear Edge for Charter Schools

Maxwell, Lesli A. “Study Finds No Clear Edge for Charter Schools.” June 29, 2010. Retrieved on July 14, 2011. http://www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2010/06/29/36ies.h29.html?tkn=RVUFmO3pkQ9uspvOsLlmm3tzNw%2BDroY%2FI1nX&cmp=clp-sb-ascd

The author summarizes a federally commissioned study by Mathematica Policy Research on the effectiveness of charters who used a lottery to select their students. The Mathematica study found similar results to a 2009 Stanford University study who found that “in general, most charters were producing similar or worse achievement results for students than traditional public schools.”
