Barry Schwartz on our loss of wisdom.

Schwartz, Barry.  Video.  Ted Talks.  Posted February 2009.  Retrieved from:

Speaker Barry Schwartz gives a speech about being virtuous and teaching morality.  There are several stories of people you put other ahead of the job descriptions and how too many rules and procedures spare us from thinking.  From his presentation:

A wise person:

  • knows when and how to make the exception to every rule.
  • knows when and how to improvise.
  • knows how to use moral skills in pursuit of the right aims.
  • is made, not born.

The good news is you don’t need to be brilliant to be wise. The bad news is that without wisdom, brilliance isn’t enough.
